Sofia Vergara Didnโt Need to Go to a Recording Studio; the Recording Studio Came to Her
When Sofia Vergara needed to record radio spots for a Rooms To Go campaign, Minneapolis agency Peterson Milla Hooks brought a mobile recording studio to the location. While shooting the live action sequences for the campaign at Melody Ranch in Santa Clarita, California, producer Sean Healey arranged for Mobile Studio USA to park its mobile recording studio in the base camp next to Ms. Vergara’s trailer.
Mobile Recording Studio with Voice Booth and Control Room
Mobile Studio USA’s 14-foot, soundproof trailer, with ProTools-equipped control room and compact voice booth, enabled Ms. Vergara to record the radio spots during a lunch break. "Using the mobile studio could not have been easier,” said Healey. “It allowed work to continue inside the stage which was a money saver overall for the client.” For additional savings, Mobile Studio USA audio engineer Lorita de la Cerna edited the spots on ProTools in the trailer. “The client was able to walk away with ready-to-air spots,” added Healey. “It saved Ms. Vergara from having to go to a sound studio and saved the client having to book additional editing time later on.”
Savings for Commercial Producers
Built in 2008 by television technical director Amir Soleimani, the compact studio served primarily as a mobile ADR trailer for television series. Over the past 5 years the mobile recording studio has provided the convenience of on-location ADR recording for hundred of episodes of primetime TV series. “While the majority of our clients come from the episodic television side,” said Soleimani, “we’re finding more and more commercial producers like the convenience of getting the voice over during production. Our mobile studio helps producers solve the issue of scheduling celebrity talent who have limited availability.”
According to Soleimani, the detachable trailer weighs 5 tons due to all the soundproofing. “Our goal was to achieve the same level of sound isolation you would get from a traditional studio, plus equip the trailer with the same professional digital recording tools,” said Soleimani. The control room is equipped with ProTools and a Digi003 controller console. The vocal booth features a Sennheiser 415 mic and a video monitor playback for ADR. “We also honor client requests for a specific mic depending on their needs,” added Soleimani.
