Hometeam is ringing in the new year with a new anthem film, โChasing the Same Sun,โ that turns the lens on the crews behind the scenes and celebrates their passion for storytelling and filmmaking across the globe.
“Hometeam has always been driven to support independent local film communities and empower filmmakers to do their best work on a global scale,โ notes Hometeam Co-Founder Lagan Sebert. โWith ‘Chasing The Same Sun,’ weโre celebrating some of our MVP filmmakers around the world. When we are doing our job best, the process of filmmaking feels like making art with friends.”
โChasing the Same Sun,โ Directed and Edited by Chris Bourke, celebrates the heart and soul of production by following crews across six continents, showcasing the diversity of sets, equipment and talent from the U.S., Brazil, and Australia to South Africa, India and Spain, with post-production overseen by Hometeamโs Los Angeles-based crew. Telling the story of a day in the life of production teams across the globe, the film brings to life the philosophy of, โthink globally, film locally,โ through the power of Hometeamโs global network of filmmakers, emphasizing that storytelling knows no boundaries or borders. Through stunning visuals that evoke a vintage surf film (a la โThe Endless Summerโ) and heartfelt moments, the tribute captures the shared passion for storytelling that unites filmmakers worldwide, all chasing the same sun.
โThis passion for the production adventure fuels us and binds us together as a global community of filmmakers,โ shares Hometeam Co-Founder Brandon Bloch. โAnywhere you go in the worldโ any city on any continentโfilmmakers share a process, a shared understanding of gear and technical approach, common on-set rituals and jargon. As career-long filmmakers ourselves, itโs something we finally wanted to capture and commemorate with โChasing the Same Sun.โโ
โThe staff at Hometeam are there to provide the best bridge between our clientsโ unique ideas and our powerful local crew knowledge,โ adds Hometeamโs Taรญssa Ramazzina, who is based in Sรฃo Paulo and produced the Brazilian segments. โNobody knows the cities, the locations, the challenges, and the cultural norms better than our local filmmakers.โ
Hometeamโs New York-based producer Harley Pace-Rodriguez agrees. โWe thoughtfully crafted a shot list that had a balance of universal production crew moments alongside eye-catching creative moments that could be replicated across locationsโfor instance, the golden hour, โsun as our heroโ shots. When we got on set, we had that precise map to guide us, but with all the trust and encouragement to express those shots through our own lens and the lens of NYC.โ
โCreatives are so resilient, but now more than ever it feels like our filmmaker friends across the U.S. and around the world could use some encouragement. With โChasing the Same Sun,โ weโre sending out a visual love letter to celebrate the people behind the lensโlike a big hug that reminds us of the joy for creating that keeps us going,โ shares Bloch.
Hometeam also recently celebrated a major milestone with a Snapchat AR Speciality Award at the Clio Awards for their work on the Kygo x Snapchat campaign. Partnering with Plai Studios, Hometeam co-produced and captured the worldโs first DJ-led Augmented Reality experience, which synchronized two hours of AR content with Kygoโs live performance for over 22,000 fans in Londonโs Gunnersbury Park. Directed remotely by Jonah Best with on-ground support from Hometeamโs London-based filmmaker, Richard Hutchison, the campaign wrap video premiered to the Clioโs audience at the Dolby Theatre, earning Hometeam recognition alongside industry leaders like Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Discovery Max.
