London-based production company HOME.corp recently completed a television spot with London-based independent advertising agency The Independence Orchestra for UK product Rowse Honey. The heartwarming commercial, directed by HOME.corp‘s own Lucy Blakstad, sees a boy receiving an energized breakfast with Rowse Honey from his mother and follows him through out his day.
“I saw this film as a lovely, ‘day in the life’ story based around a stunning central performance from our young boy,” says director Lucy Blakstad. “He’s charming, charismatic, full of energy and yet has a slightly ‘older than his years’ quality you can’t help but smile at.”
To resonate the richness of Rowse Honey, the commercial incorporates a slightly warm, golden visual hue throughout and utilizes an approach Blakstad calls “art directed realism” – concentrating on art directing and tweaking real lived in spaces rather than using sets. This creates an authentic and photographic environment where actors can give natural performances.
“It was really important to show the difference between the little boy ‘acting’ as a boy and a boy who is actually ‘in the moment’ with each scene,” says Blakstad. “I wanted to emphasize that our young hero will always behave in a way that feels believable, spontaneous and engaging to an audience.”
