In-Person Ceremony Set For November 16th, 2022; Submissions Are Now Open Until October 15th
The Hollywood Music in Media Awards returns live for the annual celebration. This year, the HMMA will present the distinguished Career Achievement Award to composer Kurt Farquhar at the organization’s 13th annual awards ceremony on November 16th at the Avalon in Hollywood. This marks the first time since 2019 that the event will take place as a live, in-person ceremony, following two years of virtual ceremonies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Submissions in all categories of music for film, TV and videogames are now open until October 15th.
Kurt Farquhar is the most prolific black television composer in history. The Chicago born, LA based Farquhar is an award-winning composer, producer and songwriter who has scored more primetime television series than any other African American composer over the course of the last 32 years. He is the musical architect of some of the most iconic and beloved television series including The Neighborhood, The King of Queens, Sister, Sister, Moesha, and Girlfriends. HMMA Executive Producer Brent Harvey commented on Farquhar, “We are so proud to be honoring Kurt. He is an incredibly talented composer with a great message. After overcoming homelessness, he became a Hollywood success story. His journey is an inspiration to all.”
Kurt Farquhar joins a distinguished list of past HMMA honorees including Kenny Loggins, Smokey Robinson, Diane Warren, Earth, Wind & Fire, Glen Campbell, Dave Mason and film composers John Debney and Christopher Young.
The Hollywood Music In Media Awards (HMMA) is the premier award organization to honor original music (Song and Score) in all forms of visual media. HMMA winners and nominees have historically become the nominees and winners of other mainstream awards shows that occur months later, including the Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys. Past winners include the 2022 Oscar winning score by Hans Zimmer for DUNE, and Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell’s Oscar winning Original Song “No Time to Die” from NO TIME TO DIE.
Other previous winners include Hildur Guðnadóttir for JOKER, Ludwig Goransson for BLACK PANTHER, Alexandre Desplat for SHAPE OF WATER, Nicholas Britell for SUCCESSION, songs from LA LA LAND, A STAR IS BORN and more.
The HMMA blue-ribbon judges consist of select journalists, along with Oscar, Grammy, Golden Globe and Emmy voters. With over 1000 submissions from around the world, HMMA nominees are chosen in specific genres of music for film, TV and video games including dramatic feature, sci-fi/ fantasy, documentary, and animation.

Simian Gets An Evolutionary Boost For Collaboration, Reveals “Teams”
Simian, the showreel-building, review & approval, and production asset management platform used globally by creative leaders, is kicking off this fall season with a substantial leap forward for collaboration and project management – with more updates on the way during the holidays!
The new feature, aptly dubbed “Teams”, makes it easier than ever for users to give project responsibilities to team members and clients alike. “You can never have too many options when it comes to permission levels,” says Jay Brooks, Simian’s Chief Technology Officer. “Teams provides a streamlined way to assign multiple users to a project at once.”
“Teams are very powerful, but creating one is effortless,” Brian Atton, Simian’s Chief Operating Officer explains. “Simply enter a Team name, add members, and then apply the newly made Team to any desired project. You can even invite temporary guests without changing settings for other projects or needing to create a new Team.”
“We love helping our clients by providing efficient tools to improve their workflow, and this has been a frequently requested feature as of late,” shares Kellie Atton, Head of Sales at Simian. “It feels great to get Teams out into the wild because I know it’s going to be tremendously helpful to everyone who uses it”.
Teams is now available exclusively to Simian’s enterprise clients. Simian plans to release more product upgrades and enhancements during Q4 2024 and 2025 for enterprise and non-enterprise users, continuing its ongoing evolution as the industry’s leading production asset management solution.
