Hifi Productions today announces the launch of Storyteller, a new production music label from Emmy® Award-winning composer/producer Joel Goodman. Available exclusively through Universal Production Music, the label’s initial release comprises seven albums of production-ready music drawing on Goodman’s singular ability to weave human emotion into contemporary musical narratives. Uniquely, each album includes tracks on a dozen themes, with most available in multiple arrangements, each with different emotional inflections. The result is distinctive, memorable music of unparalleled breadth, depth and versatility. The label plans additional releases on a monthly basis.
“Joel has filled a huge void in creating a collection of music with a modern narrative sound,” says Hifi Productions Marketing Director Micah Welch. “Storyteller breaks new ground by including alternate versions of themes, with a full range of emotions, from dark to upbeat. Producers have been searching for a collection like this and we are excited to deliver.”
Goodman, whose many credits include the recent Netflix documentary mini-series Murder Among the Mormons and the theme for PBS’s long-running American Experience, says the inspiration for the label came through conversations with picture editors. “Editors have been asking me for a collection of music that they can use to tell stories,” he says. “This music is thematic and takes you on a journey.”
Storyteller embodies the same stylistic innovation and high production value that Goodman applies to original scores for film, documentaries and advertising. “This is an artist-driven label,” Goodman explains. “The music is interesting, unexpected, even quirky. It stands out from other catalogs by underscoring emotions in a myriad of unique ways.”
Goodman has scored more than 150 films, documentaries and television projects that have, cumulatively received five Academy Award nominations, over 40 Emmy Award nominations and 30 Emmy® Award wins. Notable credits include Obit (Amazon), Everything Is Copy (HBO), Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah (HBO), Walt Disney (PBS), An Honest Liar (Netflix), Being Elmo (PBS), Hear and Now (HBO), Valentino: The Last Emperor (Netflix) and Children Underground (HBO). Current projects include the STARZ! series Confronting a Serial Killer.
Goodman won an Emmy Award for the HBO documentary Saving Pelican 895. His other Emmy® nominations came for Q Ball (Fox Sports), The Diplomat (ESPN) and The Boys of ’36 (PBS). In 2017, he won an ASCAP Award for 60 Days In (A+E).
