AFI FEST 2010 presented by Audi announced today the full slate of Special Presentations to be offered during the festival, including three new events that have been added to the program: CINEMA’S LEGACY WITH SCREENWRITER AARON SORKIN on November 7; ON ACTING โ A CONVERSATION WITH HALLE BERRY on November 9; and a secret screening in Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on November 9 at 9:30 p.m featuring an upcoming major Hollywood release. The title of the secret screening film will be announced on the morning of November 9 but tickets are available online starting today.
These events join the previously announced Special Presentations featuring 3D BOOTCAMP, presented by the Sony 3D Technology Center, on November 10, which includes a 20-minute preview of TRON: LEGACY in 3D, and THE LOS ANGELES TIMES YOUNG HOLLYWOOD roundtable with Carey Mulligan (NEVER LET ME GO, AN EDUCATION) and Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield (THE SOCIAL NETWORK) on November 5.
CINEMA’S LEGACY WITH SCREENWRITER AARON SORKIN
Sunday, November 7, 2:00 p.m. at the Egyptian Theatre
Presented by the American Film Institute and the SkirballCulturalCenter, this ongoing Cinema’s Legacy series invites contemporary filmmakers to screen work they credit with encouraging and shaping their art. For this event, a conversation and Q&A with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will precede a screening of Alan J. Pakula’s ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN (1976). The conversation will be moderated by AFI Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence Jim Hosney.
Aaron Sorkin graduated from SyracuseUniversity with a B.F.A. in Theatre in 1983. He made his Broadway playwriting debut at the age of 28 with the military courtroom drama, “A Few Good Men,” for which he received the John Gassner Award as Outstanding New American Playwright. The following year saw his off-Broadway play, “Making Movies,” and in 2007 he returned to Broadway with “The Farnsworth Invention,” directed by Des McAnuff.
His film adaptation of A FEW GOOD MEN was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He followed this success with the screenplays for MALICE and THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. Sorkin produced and wrote the television series SPORTS NIGHT for ABC for two years, and then spent the next four years writing and producing the NBC series THE WEST WING, winning the Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series all four years. For his work on THE WEST WING, Mr. Sorkin also twice received the Peabody Award and the Humanitas Prize, and three Television Critics Association Awards. He also won a Golden Globe, a Writers Guild Award and three Producers Guild Awards.
In 2006, Sorkin wrote and produced the NBC television series STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP. He also wrote the 2007 film CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR. His latest film, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, is directed by David Fincher and stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake.

Academy Awardยฎ winning actress HalleBerry returns to AFI FEST to talk about her extraordinary career and her influences, with film clips from her work shown throughout the event. She will soon be seen in FRANKIE & ALICE, a psychological drama โ produced by Berry โ based on the true story of Frankie Murdoch, a woman suffering with multiple personality disorder in early 1970s Los Angeles, also starring Stellan Skarsgรฅrd.
Berry continues to break down barriers with a multitude of critically acclaimed, diverse roles and success at the box office. She won the Academy Awardยฎ for Best Actress in 2001’s MONSTER’S BALL, in addition to the SAG Award, National Board of Review and the Berlin Silver Bear Award. Berry also earned an Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and NAACP Image Award for her performance in HBO’s INTRODUCING DOROTHY DANDRIDGE, which she also produced. She made her feature film debut in Spike Lee’s groundbreaking 1991 film, JUNGLE FEVER, and has gone on to appear in projects as diverse as BULWORTH, opposite Warren Beatty, LOSING ISAIAH, also starring Jessica Lange, the James Bond film DIE ANOTHER DAY, the boxoffice smash X-MEN series, SWORDFISH with John Travolta and Hugh Jackman, and THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE, opposite Benicio Del Toro.

Buzz Hayes, Senior Vice President of the Sony 3D TechnologyCenter, will present this special seminar on the making of 3D entertainment. The bootcamp will cover the history and foundation of 3D production, including the fundamentals of making good 3D, basic terminology, tools and techniques and 3D “dos and don’ts.” The seminar includes a 20-minute preview of TRON: LEGACY, a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world. Walt Disney Pictures will release TRON: LEGACY in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D on December 17, 2010.
“SECRET SCREENING” AT AFI FEST

AFI FEST will offer a secret screening of a soon-to-be-released major Hollywood film. The title of the film will be announced on the day of the screening, but free tickets can be reserved now through the AFI FEST box office and website.
