Hybrid production company <a href="(www.globalmechanic.com)“>Global Mechanic celebrates its 10 year anniversary by an expansion and a re-branding. With the company’s growth in non-commercial production dramatically expanded, creative director and founder Bruce Alcock felt it was time to tweak the identity to better match the company’s total offering. “We still work to solve visual problems using many techniques and mediums, but now we do it for film, TV and the web.” Alcock continues, “the work we have to show is so much broader than before, we felt the need to re-craft the way we show it.”
The new look is anchored in a completely revamped website built by <a href="(www.globalmechanic.com)“>Global Mechanic‘s in house development staff. With new main pages for each category of work, all of design and production disciplines exist in self-contained sections: commercials, series, interactive, films, and “stuff”. No matter where in the site the user is, randomly generated montages in the upper right hand corner of the page play and highlight the “best of” the studios work. With a data driven backend built in MySQL, PHP and Javascript “no flash here”, users can search a MySQL database of hundreds of commercials, films and other art giving a visitor access to a veritable art museum of images, ideas, photos, commercial and more. The site is designed so that search is not only up front and center but yields a broader range of results through significant use of keywords added to each image. Search can be by genre, style, technique…even color “not accurate but sounds great!” As one hovers over thumbnails, external links to “more info”, the ability to download, email, sharing, and embed are present. The links to the external social sites: Blog, Twitter, Facebook and Vimeo are always in the nav. Says EP Tina Ouellette, “the website is not only elegant and beautifully designed, but from a technical standpoint, it is also a tribute to the skill of GM’s development staff.”
Recent work for <a href="(www.globalmechanic.com)“>Global Mechanic includes: “Vive La Rose” short film in competition at the Sundance Film Festival and recently named one of the top ten films at TIFF; Drawings an award winning PSA for “Stand: raising awareness for the war in Darfur;” “Bust it or Believe it” first online YouTube campaign with Leo Burnett for Silk Soy Milk; Season 5 for the Emmy Award winning PBS TV show FETCH with Ruff Ruffman. In addition, Bruce Alcock’s has just begun pre-production on his most recent film “Impromptu,” being produced for the NFB.
