According to the <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy doctrine, one can never stop improving or embracing more creative talent, as evidenced by the addition of editor Fernando Villena to the West Los Angeles company’s creative editorial roster. Villena’s extensive credits include feature films “Jonah Hex,” “Gamer,” “Battle in Seattle,” “Crank: High Voltage,” “The Gospel” and the enormously successful independent feature “Bella,” which won the coveted Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival.
His feature documentaries include “Every Little Step” and the acclaimed David LaChapelle film, “Rize.” Music video credits include Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Snoop Dogg, Ashlee Simpson, Evanescence, Nelly Furtado, Black Eyed Peas, and Macy Gray to name a few. His spot work reflects top brands such as Gatorade, Coors Light, Lexus and Mazda.
The addition of Fern has been a long relationship in the making. “We are ecstatic to have Fernando join our team of editors,” says <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy Executive Producer Joseph DiSanto. “Some of us have known Fern for many years, and watched his career launch from commercials to hundred million dollar feature films, and through it all he has maintained his same easy-going, care-free style that we all know and love. Fern isn’t just an editor; he brings so much love to what he does that his positivity is contagious to everyone around him!”
Fernando comments on working with <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy, “I know that the artists and people at <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy are progressive and super talented, and they have the kind of vibe I want to be associated with. There’s so much collaboration and inspiration there, and I want to be a part of it. I also like the idea of a shop who’s partners all work there on a daily basis, because I know they’re in touch with their editors and clients.” <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy co-owner and editor, Doobie White, is currently collaborating with Fern on Warner Bros. feature film Jonah Hex, slated for release this summer. Last year Villena brought White in to cut action sequences on two Lionsgate’s releases, Crank: High Voltage and Gamer.
“I’m a huge fan, and we work together so well,” says White. “I’m excited to have him on board with us because I feel he’s such a great creative force. He’s relentless in his pursuit of finding story and emotion, and I am excited to get Fern’s great talents out into the commercial world again. We know that Fern will strengthen our overall roster and creative reputation, because his work speaks for itself.” “Though we try not to pigeonhole our editors into particular styles,” says DiSanto, “clients tend to look for people with specialties, and Fern definitely falls into the storytelling specialty because of his feature work." Villena notes, “I buy into the rule that an editor’s cuts should not be felt or seen; it should be all about story. I am really thrilled if nobody mentions a cut but instead says, ‘Wow, what a great commercial, film or video." Rounding out <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy‘s editorial force are Kristin McCasey, Meg Ramsay and Mauro Camoroda. Villena will be available to edit commercial projects around his feature schedule. <a href="www.youneedtherapy.tv.>Therapy plans to embrace more feature film work in-house as well in order to make their editors available to all forms of creative editing.
