The 6Sight® Future of Imaging Summit will kick-off its Camera Summit with a keynote from Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Vincent Laforet, at 8:45 a.m., June 21, 2011, at the Ste. Claire Hotel, San Jose, Calif.
“I’m honored to deliver the keynote address for 6Sight this year,” says Laforet. “As a photographer who constantly pushes the envelope with digital photography, I’m very excited to address the leaders of some of the most innovative imaging companies in the world.”
Laforet will discuss his transition from Pulitzer-Prize winning photojournalist at The New York Times to DGA Director and DP over the past 3 years. He will share insight from his transition into the world of motion imaging, and share some behind-the-scenes looks into both HD-DSLR production, as well as his experiences with cameras such as the Red EPIC and the Phantom high speed camera. Laforet will share his vision of where he sees the next significant advancements in digital capture happening, and how he and other photographers will adapt to those changes.
Laforet is a pioneer in tilt-shift and aerial photography, and is now on the cutting edge of video work with HD-capable DSLR cameras. His short film Reverie was the first 1080p video shot with a still camera, and was seen more than 2 million times in the first week of its release in 2009. Laforet is a three-time winner at the 2010 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. He started as a photojournalist for The Los Angeles Times, Reuters, and The New York Times. He now also consults for Apple, Canon, Manfrotto, Lexar, X-Rite, Zeiss, and other companies.
The presentation leads into an industry overview from 6Sight’s photography editor and analyst Paul Worthington, and a panel discussion of the future of image capture. Joining Laforet and Worthington on the panel will be Darin Pepple of Panasonic; Jeff Witkop of Kodak; and Kartik Venkataraman of Pelican Imaging.
“Digital cameras have radically improved in little more than a decade,” says Worthington, who has covered photography for Future Image and 6Sight since 1997. “Affordable quality cameras are so ubiquitous today it’s easy to forget they are exponentially better than yesterday’s pricey hardware. But those improvements and cost reductions bring new challenges — what will make consumers buy new cameras, and how can the industry continue to grow and profit? Our panel will feature Imaging industry experts discussing the latest imaging innovations that will make their way to the consumer photography market.”
Attendees at the 6Sight Future of Imaging Summit will also benefit from more new information on the imaging industry than can be found at any other executive conference. 6Sight is providing data and expert advice from top imaging analysts such as Marion Knoche of Gfk, Ron Glaz of IDC, Ed Lee of InfoTrends, Liz Cutting of NPD, Jon Peddie of JPR Research, and Steve Hoffenberg of Lyra. The analyst roundtable will be moderated by noted independent journalist/researcher, Kristy Holch, the founder of InfoTrends. PMA publisher Gary Pageau will present new data from the association’s survey of mobile imaging users. And Lisa Walker, president of the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) will moderate a consumer panel that explores the usage behaviors of social imaging users of all ages.
Other imaging experts providing unique perspectives on the Future of Imaging include social media pioneer, author and investor, Guy Kawasaki, who will focus on Social Imaging; digital printing and publishing pioneer and marketing expert, Barb Pellow, who will focus on Photo Publishing; analyst Tony Henning, who will focus on Mobile Imaging; and nationally recognized mobile industry authority and Principal Analyst of MobileTrax, J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D. will focus on emerging trends, technologies and market behavior in cell phones.
6Sight is the imaging technology executive conference for PMA International. The 6Sight Future of Imaging Summit is on June 20-22, 2011, at The Sainte Claire hotel in San Jose, Calif. Visit www.6Sight.com for more information.
