CODE Film is pleased to welcome the talented Vikram Dasgupta to their excellent roster of directors this summer.
Born in New Delhi, India into a family of artists, musicians and dancers, Vikram was highly influenced by the arts all throughout his life, his main source of inspiration being his grandmother's storytelling. However, before jumping right into film studies after high school, Vikram decided to first "focus on one frame before working with 24 frames per second" – a lesson taught to him by his father and heeded throughout his career.
Vikram attended the prestigious Government College of Arts in Calcutta, where he created a short docudrama entitled ‘inSANITY’ about a homeless artist on the streets of Calcutta. This later got accepted into the Film program at Sheridan College, Canada in 2001. Vikram graduated with a Major in Fine Arts, receiving an honours scholarship and a Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in the field of Art & Design. He has now been living and working in the Canadian Film and TV industry for over 13 years – including having worked for famed music composer AR Rahman of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.
An ardent believer in the power of storytelling, Vik’s strengths lie predominately in visual storytelling – both in short and medium formats. He thrives on narratives that delve into the crux of the genuineness and simplicity of human emotions in order to get the point across – be it in a commercial or a film.

Vik’s latest commercial for the Pan Am/Parapan Am TO2015 entitled ‘Are you ready’ was nominated for the Cannes Lions 2015 in the Film (Entertainment and Leisure) category. His most recent medium format narrative, the multi award-winning ‘Calcutta Taxi’, funded by CTV’s Bravofact and National Film Board of Canada, was in consideration for the Academy Awards® 2014 in the Short Narrative Drama category.
