The Entertainment Industry Professionals Mentoring Alliance (EIPMA) is partnering with Space Games Federation® (SGF), one of its member organizations, to promote the International Space Station (ISS) for the Nobel Peace Prize.
EIPMA and SGF have created the Space Games Equal Space™ Challenge (#NOBEL4ISS Equal Space Challenge) in which aspiring entertainment industry professionals can compete to create a public service announcement to foster public support for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to ISS. Others involved in the effort include EIPMA member organizations, Vaughan International Film Festival, Avid Technology, Claremont High School, Harman Pro Group and SMPTE.
Participation is global and open to students, young professionals and others interested in careers in media and entertainment. Entrants may work alone or in teams and have until July 15 to submit entries. Registered participants have access to previously recorded sound and video material, including on-camera interviews with astronauts, scientists and celebrities. They may also create new material.
SGF believes that ISS merits the honor for its unique contributions to international cooperation and peace. Since astronauts first arrived in 2000, the Space Station has been visited by more than 230 spacecraft from more than a dozen nations. “There is no better time than now to celebrate the way ISS has united people across countries, languages and cultures,” said SGF founder Linda Rheinstein, adding that the effort has attracted support from scientists, educators, athletes and celebrities around the world. “This is a personal passion project of mine and will continue until the International Space Station receive a well-deserved Nobel Peace Prize. It worth is especially apparent this year as it continues to operate peacefully and make a difference for people on Earth. We can look up at the sky and see hope.”
Participants will receive virtual support from EIPMA and its member organizations, including the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE), American Cinema Editors (ACE), Cinema Audio Society (CAS), Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), AVID Technologies, Harman, The Recording Academy, Sound Girls, Hollywood Professional Association (HPA), Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program (EICOP), Audio Engineering Society, Los Angeles (AES-LA), the Ashe Academy, the Vaughan International Film Festival, and KMD Productions.
“The #NOBEL4ISS Equal Space Challenge provides young career aspirants with a wonderful mentoring experience, a chance to improve their professional skills,” said EIPMA president Bernard Weiser. “We encourage them to put their hearts and passions into this inspiring campaign.”
“Partnering on this upcoming film challenge is exciting for us because it aligns with VFF’s mission of providing opportunities to emerging filmmakers,” observed Julia Agris, Manager of Education for the Vaughan International Film Festival. “We look forward to receiving creative submissions that were inspired by the infinite possibilities of space.”
Winners will be announced this summer with cash and in-kind prizes provided by Space Games Federation, SMPTE, AVID, Harman and others. EPMA and Space Games plan to make winning entries of #NOBEL4ISS Equal Space Challenge available to media outlets worldwide.
