Eden FX, a Hollywood-based creator of visual effects for feature films, television programs and commercials, has created a number of CG visual effects for a special network television presentation in 3D for an upcoming episode of NBC’s “Chuck.” Eden FX co-founders John Gross and Mark Miller made the announcement.
Concurrently, Eden FX has also been nominated for three 2008 Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards. Those nominations are for:
1) Supporting Visual Effects in a Movie: “Nim’s Island:” Eden FX’s Fred Pienkos
2) Outstanding Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series: “Ghost Whisperer” Episode: “Ghost In The Machine:” Eden FX’s Matt Scharf & Stefan Brederock
3) Outstanding Models and Miniatures in a Broadcast Program or Commercial: “Ghost Whisperer” Episode: “Claridon Ship Shots:” Eden FX’s Eric Hance
“Chuck vs. the Third Dimension” will air on Monday, February 2 on NBC, and viewers will need to wear a pair of 3D glasses to get the full experience of that special presentation. SoBe (a Pepsi product) is the official sponsor of the 3D event, and is giving away 150 million 3D glasses in the U.S. in advance of the 2009 Super Bowl. (Note: A 3D preview of Dreamworks’ “Monsters vs. Aliens” will also air during the game.) Nationally, SoBe retailers – grocery stores, convenience stores, etc., โ will be distributing these 3D glasses to American consumers.
Eden FX created a number of CG visual effects which were designed to enthrall “Chuck” viewers on Feb. 2nd wearing these special stereoscopic 3D glasses. Eden created FX that include a knife and tranquilizer darts being thrown at the audience, a graphic hand grenade explosion, and the inside look at a tunnel within an air vent, among others.
Dan Curry, VFX Supervisor for “Chuck,” said, “Eden FX did a great job on this episodeโฆthey really understood the 3D process and made a very valuable contribution to this show.”
Adds John Gross, Eden’s In-House VFX Supervisor, “It’s not everyday that we get to throw knives and darts at millions of TV viewers sitting in the safety of their living rooms!” In addition to Mr. Gross, Eden FX Digital Artists Rick Ramirez, Fred Pienkos and Sean Scott also contributed to the 3D episode of “Chuck.”
ABOUT “CHUCK:”
From executive producer, Josh Schwartz (“The O.C.”) and executive producer-director McG ("Charlie’s Angels," "We Are Marshall") comes a one-hour, action-comedy series about Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, “Less Than Perfect”) — a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government’s most vital secret agent. When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at a Buy More Electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must now confront assassins and international terrorists.
With the government’s most precious secrets in Chuck’s head, Major John Casey of the National Security Agency (Adam Baldwin, “My Bodyguard”) assumes the responsibility of protecting him. His partner is the CIA’s top agent (and Chuck’s first date in years), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski, “Gone”). They’ll try to keep him safe by trading in his pocket protector for a bulletproof vest. Also starring are Joshua Gomez (“Without a Trace”) as Morgan Grimes, Chuck’s best buddy, and Sarah Lancaster (“What About Brian?”) as Chuck’s ever-supportive sister, Ellie. Just named as one of the top-10 shows on TV in TV Week’s Winter Critics Poll, “Chuck” is co-created and written by Josh Schwartz (“The O.C., “Gossip Girl”) and Chris Fedak, and is executive-produced by Schwartz, McG (“Charlie’s Angels,” “We Are Marshall”), Chris Fedak and Scott Rosenbaum. “Chuck” is produced by College Hill Pictures, Wonderland Sound and Vision, in association with Warner Bros. Television.
