Eden FX, a Hollywood-based creator of visual effects for feature films, television programs and commercials, has completed production on an extensive array of digital effects for two major, upcoming studio feature films, “Nim’s Island” and “Get Smart.” Eden FX co-founders Mark Miller and John Gross made the announcement.
ABOUT “NIM’S ISLAND:”
On behalf of client Walden Media, Eden FX produced over 200 visual effects shots for “Nim’s Island,” including a number of complex 3D elements, and a wide variety of other digital FX.
Camille Cellucci, Senior Visual Effects Producer for “Nim’s Island,” said, “Eden FX came to our rescue on this project. We initially had 200 FX shots, but that number grew to 465, with Eden taking over 200 of those shots. They were able to get involved quickly with several complex shots and delivered them with wonderful creativity. We were very happy with their work and terrific attitude—they really gave it their all, and the finished film will certainly showcase many of their great FX.”
She adds, “With an extremely limited schedule and budget Eden FX executed some challenging transition shots, including one that starts on Nim’s Island, pulls out to reveal the Earth, and then pushes all the way into Alex’s (Jodi Foster’s) window in San Francisco. They only had two short photographic pieces to work with, and under the expert guidance of Visual Effects Supervisors Scott Gordon and Fred Pienkos, Eden FX created everything else.”
Starring Jodie Foster and Gerard Butler, “Nim’s Island,” directed by Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, is a family adventure film about a young girl who inhabits an isolated island with her scientist father and communicates with a reclusive author of the novel she’s reading. The film is based on the book by Wendy Orr and Kerry Millard, and will be released April 4, 2008, by 20th Century Fox and Walden Media.
ABOUT “GET SMART:”
For client Warner Bros., Eden FX has just completed 157 digital FX shots for the upcoming “Get Smart” feature film.
Regarding Eden’s work, Joe Bauer, VFX Supervisor for Warner Bros. on “Get Smart,” said, “‘Get Smart’ had some tricky stuff. With Eden FX, we knew right away we were in good hands. As sequences grew and became more elaborate- as they tend to do- Eden’s team thrilled us with their professionalism and ability to meet our budget and time deadlines. They consistently met technical and creative challenges in an A-list manner. I don’t think for any price the work could have been better.”
Starring Steve Carrell as “Maxwell Smart,” Agent 86 for CONTROL, “Get Smart” features Smart as he battles the forces of KAOS with Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) at his side. The film is directed by Peter Segal and will be released June 20, 2008, by Warner Bros.
ABOUT EDEN FX:
Formed in 2000 by visual effects and post-production notables John Gross and Mark Miller, Eden FX specializes in 3D animation, compositing, 3D matte painting, character animation and on-set supervision. In addition to the films cited above, Eden FX regularly contributes visual effects to the hit TV series “Lost,” “The Ghost Whisperer,” “Moonlight,” “24,” “NCIS,” “Pushing Daisies,” and “Army Wives.”
