On Monday, May 10th, songwriter/bandleader Louis Schwadron – former member of The Polyphonic Spree and Rufus Wainwright’s band – delivered a rousing performance at New York’s Mercury Lounge with his new band SKY WHITE TIGER. Sid Finch was the opening band.
With white-hot focus, hauntingly hooky melodies and a highly theatrical stage show, SKY WHITE TIGER always strives to leave the audience in the blurred violet light between fantasy and reality. “There is nothing as rich, volcanic and alive-making than the opportunity to share a night of music with your best friends and an entire audience of new best friends,” Schwadron says of the show. “Sky White Tiger is as much about the seamless exchange of melody and emotion from player to player as it is the exchange between the audience and the five of us.”
Schwadron teamed up with producer Bryce Goggin, combining the psychedelic, symphonic, and lyrical to create the sound world of SKY WHITE TIGER. The band released its debut EP in September 09, with all of the music and lyrics by Schwadron, who also contributes lead vocals and keyboards.
Schwadron and fellow duotone composer Aaron Mirman are currently creating music for a global Pantene campaign via Grey NY.
SKY WHITE TIGER performs next June 1 at Nublu (62 Avenue C at 5th st), with shows at 10:30 and midnight.
