The industry-leading technology that has placed DIVE, the visual effects and film finishing house, on the map is now available for commercial production through its parent company Shooters Post & Transfer.
Commercial production has just been upgraded.
DIVE’s commitment to technological research and development keeps the company ahead of the curve. By implementing a state-of-the-art, facility-wide data flow capable of servicing film clients’ demanding post-production needs, Shooters’ clientele can now also reap the same benefits.
The release of the RED One camera and other high-end digital cameras has created a boon in the industry for digital acquisition. And DIVE, in conjunction with Shooters, has made major investments to stay ahead of the bleeding edge.
Director Josh Shelov and his team brought “The Best and the Brightest”, starring Neil Patrick Harris, to DIVE for just that reason. Shelov’s latest film is shot entirely in RED. Managing the process when the crew began shooting in Philadelphia, DIVE handled dailies and then set up a customized workflow to ensure the edit had all of the elements needed. This allows Shelov a smooth process for all the work to return to DIVE for finishing.
According to DIVE’s Executive Producer Andy Williams, “When the Producers for The Best and The Brightest approached us about the film, they were deciding whether to shoot RED or to shoot film. The cost savings associated with shooting digital as opposed to film was appealing. The next big hurdle was to get them comfortable with the RED workflow from on-set acquisition through the DI process,” says Williams. “We were thrilled to be able to put them at ease. And we’re proud that we can now make this same service accessible to all of Shooters’ clients as well.”
Utilizing the up-to-the-minute infrastructure put in place at its inception, DIVE and Shooters provides clients with a customizable framework and the potential to render quality RED dailies 2x faster than real-time. DIVE can also render the highest possible quality film rez footage at a ratio of 3:1, as well as render high-resolution media for SD and HD commercial work faster than real-time. DIVE and Shooters also have the technology to increase these times if needed.
Efficiency. Power. Expertise.
DIVE’s collaboration of technology and creativity with Shooters produces expert motion picture and broadcast results via an integrated workflow. With both Mac- and Linux-based render farms, a fiber based storage area network, and LTO archival methods, the tapeless workflow is designed to keep up with the most aggressive schedules. Features include high-resolution real-time playback, a fully calibrated digital cinema/intermediate theater, and Smoke 2k and Inferno suites for high rez conforming from native RED r3d files in real time, as well as a full VFX department and FCP/Avid suites dedicated to off-line work.
DIVE maintains a Spirit 2K with a Bones system for high-resolution film scans for traditionally acquired work. Also in the facility is an arsenal of HD format tape decks, including multiple HDcamSR machines– adding flexibility to the dataflow unparalleled in the market.
The joined forces and foresight of DIVE and Shooters: a win-win for commercial as well as feature film post production needs.
