Director/DP Dana Christiaansen has signed with <a href="www.bullypictures.com.>Bully Pictures for exclusive national representation. Christiaansen is best known for his automotive work and has credits with virtually every major car brand, including recent spots for BMW, Toyota, Jeep, Suzuki and Hyundai.
Christiaansen, who spent the past year freelancing, has previously worked with <a href="www.bullypictures.com.>Bully Pictures on several campaigns for Suzuki and Los Angeles agency Siltanen & Partners Advertising. Most recently, he directed a 3-spot campaign for Kizashi, Suzuki’s sporty sedan, featuring head-to-head comparisons between the car and luxury sedans made by Volvo, Audi and Mercedes. The spots are airing now.
“Dana has been consistently one of the top automotive directors in the commercial industry,” said <a href="www.bullypictures.com.>Bully Pictures executive producer Jason Forest. “He delivers beautiful, contemporary footage, embraces new technology, and is extremely creative in coming up with new and innovative ways to shoot cars.”
For his part, Christiaansen said that he was impressed with the way <a href="www.bullypictures.com.>Bully Pictures supports its directors and felt that it had a different approach to the commercial business from other production companies. “I like the way Jason thinks,” he observed. “He works hard and has good ideas about how to apply my talents to each job.”
Christiaansen’s recent projects include a campaign for Hyundai’s new Equus. The spots features drift car driver Rhys Millen in dynamic driving sequences. Christiaansen used seven cameras to capture the action. “The automotive world moves fast,” the director noted. “My role is typically to make cars look beautiful in beautiful locations, and I’m always looking for new ways to keep it interesting. That’s the fun part.”
Christiaansen has been an eager adopter of digital technology and has used the new Arri Alexa and Red MX cameras on recent commercial shoots. Additionally, he has completed four stereoscopic 3D projects. Among them was a 3D demonstration piece for Sony that was shown at NAB 2010. He also served as director of photography on a 3D trailer for the film Saw 3D.
Christiaansen began his career as a camera assistant and quickly advanced to cinematographer while working with some of the top directors in the commercial industry. He launched his directing career with Plum Productions, where he enjoyed great success, and has been working as a director and director of photography ever since.
