Nonfiction Unlimited filmmaker Sean Dunne is about to premiere his short documentary “Stray Dawg” on marathon-running country singer Jonny Corndawg. The film’s premiere is the culmination of Dunne’s four-week series of shorts that have played through April at the Brooklyn Bowl. The event will take place on Monday April 25th at 8PM.
“Stray Dawg” follows the athletic exploits of country-music icon Jonny Corndawg, a musician who has played in every US state since 2001 plus toured throughout Canada, Australia, Argentina, Europe and India.
Corndawg is also a marathon-runner, an artist who dedicates himself to the world of running. He may spend more time on tour than on terra firma but his dedication to running ten miles every day before and after each show is astounding. While others swig on Jim Beam Corndawg is out there pounding the pavement. Indeed, band members are not too sure how well this news will be received back in Nashville.
“Stray Dawg” follows the impromptu athlete as he goes on tour down the California coast, braving injury and isolation on his quest to complete the Surf City USA Marathon in Huntington Beach. The world premiere will screen right before Corndawg himself takes the stage. It is yet to be determined whether or not Corndawg will be wearing sneakers during the set.
Dunne is a documentary short and commercial filmmaker who revels in grinding his gears on independent film, operating with small crews and utilizing the power of social media to get his message across.
His work separates itself from the humdrum by featuring character-driven work in a stylized way to unveils very human emotions. His short documentary “The Archive” is a prime example of his technique, a film that follows a man with failing health who is forced to sell his cherished and world’s largest vinyl record collection. The documentary has over 360,000 views on Vimeo, and went on to screen at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009.
Dunne, who is represented by Nonfiction Unlimited for commercials and advertising projects, has also directed a campaign for the Sundance Channel featuring filmmakers including Joel Schumacher and Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine). He has also directed a series of documentary shorts on the web for sports icon Nike through Wieden + Kennedy, NY.
Dunne’s “Road to Boom” spots for Nike are also of note featuring Steven Stamkos of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lighting.
