Directors Guild of America National Executive Director Jay D. Roth today announced that after nearly a decade of service to the Guild, Chief Financial Officer Brian O’Rourke will retire from his position in March 2016.
“That legacy will be carried on by Joan Sumpter, whose deep financial background and leadership across both the nonprofit and private sectors will be a valuable asset to the Guild.”
Sumpter joins the Guild from the Fulfillment Fund – a nonprofit organization that helps underprivileged students achieve a college education – where she served as Vice President of Finance and Administration leading the financial operations of the fund, including financial reporting, cash management, budgeting and tax matters in addition to human resources and information technology.
Sumpter started her career at Deloitte as a certified public accountant before years of extensive work in entertainment industry finance positions at such major studios as Fox and MGM/UA, as well as Priority Records, Castle Rock Entertainment and New World Entertainment. She later headed her own consulting business. She earned a B.A. in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and has served on several boards including The Luminaires Juniors of the Doheny Eye Institute and Palisades Women’s Club.
O'Rourke has been with the DGA since 2006. Prior to that, he spent 30 years in finance and accounting in medium-sized and large industrial firms, with 20 years Controller/CFO experience.
