The Department is proud to have contributed to a signature project of unprecedented style for Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel 2013/2014 Métiers d’Art show, which draws inspiration from Western lore. French production company Walter Films selected The Department and Founder/Producer Byron Fitts to help capture the experience of the star-studded fashion rodeo that was equal parts Paris and Dallas. The Chanel films will be utilized for promotion throughout 2014.
Five shorts highlight the once-a-year runway show, the Chanel Métiers d'Art event, for which The Automobile Building in Dallas’ Fair Park was transformed into a 4-screen drive-in complete with classic cars; and Centennial Hall into a massive western runway adorned with chandeliers of Texas and French flags and an adjacent saloon for the after party. The Dallas location speaks to the new Lagerfeld line and is an homage to Neiman Marcus and its founder Stanley Marcus who championed CoCo Chanel’s comeback in the 1950s. Madame Chanel was given the Neiman Marcus award for Distinguished Service in the Field of Fashion 56 years ago.
Capturing the couture and runway show was just part of the project; the films also illuminated the behind the scenes mounting of the show and the celebrity and fashion icons present (Anna Wintour, Lauren Hutton, Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart and many more) for this highly-anticipated experience.

“When undertaking a project of this size, scope and visibility, choosing the right production services partner is vital, and it requires lots of research.” says Walter Films’ Franck Laskar. “Byron and his team made it so we could focus on storytelling while they managed the incredible number of details involved in a production of this scale. We trusted them completely and it worked perfectly.”
“It was an amazing opportunity to be called upon to facilitate such a grand project for Walter Films,” comments The Department’s EP/Founder Byron Fitts. “But like any project, you are there to do a job, no matter the client or brand. And considering the magnitude of this project, a lot of time and planning went into prep to get it right — you only have one shot at a live event. I’m proud it was a success, for us and for Walter Films.“
