The Art Directors Guild awarded production designers Eve Stewart and Jesse Benson top honors on Saturday at its 15th Annual Awards show.
Stewart won the Excellence in Production Design for a Period Film award for her work on “The King’s Speech” while Benson won the Excellence in Production Design for Commercials and Music Videos award for “Ice Fishing,” the original spot from the viral “The Most Interesting Man in the World” Dos Equis campaign.
The 15th Annual Excellence in 2010 Production Design Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s International Ballroom.
The modest Benson, who recently inked with DDA, said he had no expectations of winning; he didn’t realize he had to go up to the stage upon being named the winner. Some colleagues pushed him out of his chair to accept the award and he later received a ribbing from host Paula Poundstone for returning directly to his table, rather than taking his award to the organizers backstage for engraving.
At the announcement of Stewart’s win, in her excitement she ran to the stage and left behind her shoes, which were under her table. Poundstone quipped that Benson had probably stolen her shoes.
Stewart has also been nominated for this year’s Academy Award for Best Art Direction.
Benson and Stewart are represented by Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA), Los Angeles.
