The creative studio known as Resident (www.weareresident.com) is marking its First Anniversary this month. A globally-influenced boutique with a passion for design and every phase of visual media production, Resident’s first 12 months have seen its reel expand to include some of the most daring and photorealistic work in commercials, music videos, cinema and online.
For commercial work, Resident’s client base in its first year has included Mountain Dew, Ihome, Vitamin Water, Vodka V2, Heineken Light, Time Warner and Christian Lacroix. Recent assignments for music videos include “Homecoming” by Kanye West, Mary J. Blige’s “Growing Pains”, “These Hard Times” by Matchbox 20, “Stronger” by Kanye West, “Go On Girl” by Ne-yo, “Goodbye to Love” by Kenna, and “Superstar” from Lupe Fiasco.
Viewing the Resident reel is essential for understanding their rapid rise – visit both “showreel” and “aesthetic” online for the full picture. At turns playful, sleek, sophisticated, psychedelic, utterly advanced and totally natural, the work of Resident’s internationally-culled team has proven to be a welcome addition across the media landscape.

“Resident’s reel has grown very quickly in our first year, but our founding philosophy has not changed,” says Gene Nazarov, Creative Director of Resident. “We established a creatively-charged environment, with a diverse roster selected primarily from Europe and Latin America. We collaborate constantly with the client, and we move fast.
“Our stylistic approach often emphasizes clean, European lines and a tasteful finish,” Nazarov continues. “The comprehensive production philosophy of Resident makes us much more of a complete creative studio. Our ultimate objective is to shape pop culture and provide the client with a transcendent experience – when they give us the job, we want them to feel as if it was the smartest decision they ever made.”
“After a year together, Resident now has a lot more room to maneuver,” adds Gregory de Maria, Art Director of Resident. “Whether it’s in the commercial world or for groundbreaking music video directors like Hype Williams, our clients are picking up on the full potential of Resident’s offerings. We make it work from all angles: conceptualize, put boards together and devise a story. After serving as the visual effects designers, we can put it together with all of the project’s elements and finish, all in one place.”
Nazarov and De Maria are joined at Resident by Flame artist Martin Lazaro, 3D Animator Orges Kokoshari, Animators Adam Vandine, Francis Oh, and Erik Rasmussen, Managing Director Scott Pryor, and Executive Producer Elissa Muddell. Resident is represented in house by Head of Sales Daria Zeliger and independently on the East Coast by Kelly Flint of Strike!.
Resident’s ability to balance ambitious design with the realities of today’s media production environment rounds it out. “We enjoy the challenge of creating multiple solutions for our projects, within the high-pressure schedules and more limited resources that are typically encountered today,” says Scott Pryor, Managing Director of Resident. “The combination of artistic talent and deep production experience at Resident has us prepared to deliver outstanding visuals, no matter what the medium.”
Always a step beyond while moving in step with their client’s vision, Resident intends to continue putting visual creativity, that can often be highly cost-effective, on the fast track for many more years to come. “We have met so many big goals in the last year,” Nazarov concludes. “Being able to establish continuing relationships along the way is the proof that what Resident is doing works: Once our clients discover us, they stay.”
