Comedian, actress, TV host and author, Loni Love will host the Annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (IATSE, Local 706) honoring both make-up artists and hair stylists outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater. The black tie event will be held Saturday, February 20, at Paramount Studios Theatre, Hollywood. The announcement was made today by Sue Cabral-Ebert, President of IATSE Local 706.
Named by Variety as “One of the top ten comics to watch,” Love has taken stand-up comedy to new heights. Love found her niche as a co-host on the hit Fox Daytime Talk show The Real, as well as a recurring guest DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and will host the upcoming Ellen Degeneres produced game show "Heads Up!" that is set to debut in February 2016. She currently co-hosts the Café Mocha radio show with rapper MC Lyte, the only nationally syndicated show of its kind created exclusively by and for women of color.
Besides her work with television, Love stars in the upcoming film Mother's Day (2016), by director Garry Marshall. Her additional movie credits include Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 (2015) with Kevin James, Soul Plane (2004) with Kevin Hart and the Bad Ass (2014, 2015) franchise with Danny Glover. Her latest book, “Love Him Or Leave Him, but Don’t Get Stuck With theTab: Hilarious Advice for Real Women” was published in 2014.
Loni is the subject of the documentary “Being Loni Love” on Centric TV, tracing her life story from early days as a latchkey daughter growing up in the Detroit’s Brewster-Douglas housing projects to national stand up comedian, TV and film star.
As previously announced, make-up artist Ve Neill and hair stylist Yolanda Toussieng, both Oscar® and Emmy® winners, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Awards. Trophies will also be given in more than fifteen different categories honoring nominees for outstanding achievements in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater. A special Distinguished Artisan Award will spotlight an actor or actress who was a distinguished creative partner in the process of making memorable characters throughout their career, to be announced in the near future.
Nominations for this year’s Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards will be announced on January 13, 2016. Final ballot on-line voting closes on February 10, 2016. Winners will be announced on February 14 at the Awards gala.
