The CLIO Awards announced the 2012 Shortlist of finalists in one of the world’s most recognized awards competitions honoring excellence in advertising, design and communications. The CLIO Awards celebrate outstanding creative achievements in sixteen media categories including Film (television/cinema, online, mobile), Interactive (apps, games, social media), Print (copywriting, photography, typography) and Content & Contact, which recognizes ground-breaking campaigns that use both traditional and non-traditional forms of advertising to minimize the barrier between content and target audience. During a recent three-week long judging process, CLIO juries convened for three rounds of judging and evaluated submissions in the various media categories to determine the Shortlist.
The international competition received over 11,000 submissions from countries as far-reaching as Vietnam, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia, while agencies from Germany, Brazil and the United States led the field with the most submissions shortlisted. Entries that made the cut to this year’s CLIO Shortlist came from traditional and non-traditional agencies such as Jung von Matt, BBDO Worldwide and Creative Arts Agency.
This year also marks the second year of the CLIO Awards partnership with Facebook to present a Facebook Integrated Media category. Entries in this category combine Facebook with one or more traditional mediums in a new and innovative way.
“It is our job at CLIO to facilitate the judging process but not to participate in it. For us, the only way to know if the work is great is by listening closely to the chatter of the jury. There’s much to be learned about the industry and its trends by watching the judging process unfold,” said CLIO Awards Executive Director Nicole Purcell. “The 2012 Shortlist is a reflection of the quality of CLIO judging, caliber of jurors and incredible creativity submitted from around the world.”
Agencies with submissions that have been named to the Shortlist are now eligible to win the coveted Grand, Gold, Silver or Bronze statues in their respective categories at the 53rd Annual CLIO Awards. The ceremony will take place at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History on Tuesday, May 15th at 6:30 PM.
