NEW YORK -- (SPW) -- Writer /Director Kyle Patrick Alvarez has signed with
Chelsea Pictures for exclusive U.S. and International representation. Back from his latest trip to Sundance Film Festival 2015, Kyle joins the roster with three award-winning features under his belt. In 2010 his directorial debut,
Easier with Practice, won him the prestigious “Someone to Watch” Award at the Independent Spirit Awards and was also nominated for “Best First Feature”.
His sophomore film, C.O.G., premiered in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and was the first film ever based on a short story by author David Sedaris. It was awarded the “Best New American Cinema” award at the Seattle Film Festival and was released by Focus Features.
In January, Alvarez premiered his latest film The Stanford Prison Experiment at Sundance. Based on the infamous Stanford University social research experiment conducted in the 1970s, the film stars an ensemble of young actors. Kyle assembled the talents of Tye Sheridan, Olivia Thirlby, Ezra Miller, Michael Angarano and Billy Crudup to help tell the story. The film went on to win the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award as well as the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance.
“We have been a fan of Kyle’s films since we first saw Easier with Practice,” said Co-Owner and EP Lisa Mehling. “At Sundance in January we were blown away by The Stanford Prison Experiment and knew the timing was right to introduce Kyle and his work to the advertising community. We are thrilled to welcome him to the roster.”
Alvarez commented, “I’m honored to be joining the team at Chelsea.” And the talented young director went on to add, "I love the world of advertising and am excited to take my first steps into it, especially alongside the incredible company of filmmakers that work at Chelsea. I am inspired by the work they create.”
