charlieuniformtango co-founder, president and executive producer, Lola Lott, announced Tony Wann and Justin Wilson won First Prize in the annual Project Reason video contest with “The New Tithe,” a video they wrote and produced together. nnProject Reason is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation dedicated to promoting scientific knowledge and secular values in society. Over 100 videos were submitted to the contest this year. Project Reason board members selected six finalists, which were then voted on by the public. nnIntended to be provocative, this 3-minute video raises questions about tithing, a topic that often lacks careful scrutiny. Specifically, whether the traditional concept of tithing to a church is outmoded, and whether churches are necessary or responsible arbiters of these funds.n nThe film suggests a new conception of tithing, encouraging direct contribution to secular causes that are more aligned with the values of modern society. “This video encourages a new definition of tithing by giving to causes with accountability. Our statement is simple: Think critically about how you give back to your community,” said Wilson. nnTheir work on this project has prompted Tony and Justin to consider ways the whole donation process could be streamlined, and the team plans to develop these ideas in the coming months. “For now, we just hope viewers enjoy the film.” added Wilson. nn
