charlieuniformtango president/executive producer Lola Lott announced the studio has completed a micro-site and :90 passalong video for HysterSisters.com’s “Give Me a Second” social marketing campaign.
The “Give Me a Second” campaign combines the video, microsite and public relations efforts to challenge a disturbing trend in women’s health: a high rate of invasive surgeries among hysterectomy patients.
Mary Dean, founder and chief officer of Kickskirt Marketing brought the project to Matt Manroe, ECD of digital production for charlieuniformtango. Liberal Media Film’s director Jeremy Bartel, and charlieuniformtango creative consultant/editor Travis Aitken were tapped to execute this evocative project. HysterSisters.com was established in 1998 as a forum to help women facing a hysterectomy understand their choices. This new video poignantly depicts little girls stating the “momisms” we’ve all heard, such as, “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all,” and ends with strong statistics on the number of women who undergo unnecessarily extensive or outdated procedures each year. Urging women to ask for a second opinion, “Give Me a Second” strikes a powerful chord with viewers.
Matt Manroe, along with his team of designers, were in charge of creating the website and application. Liberal Media Films, led by Bartel along with DP Jason Burks at his side, had the task of shooting sixteen little girls in three locations ‐‐ no less than 14 set‐ups ‐‐ in one day of production.
“This project is a perfect example of how charlieuniformtango and sister company Liberal Media Films can collaborate from the creative idea to the finished product,” said Lola Lott.
Mary Dean recalls that she “…was extremely nervous. Oh yes. We had one day to do what normally would be a two or three day shoot. The stakes were very, very high. But, you know, these people work so well together. I mean, they ‐‐ this little crew ‐‐ just moved along seamlessly, calmly, from shot to shot ‐‐ having a great time doing the impossible! Their energy and enjoyment of the process is what impressed me the most. And the film just looked beautiful, surpassing all of my expectations.”
Shooting on the Canon 5D ( Bartel operating a second camera ) allowed the production team to move fast. And Burks’ well‐developed ability to utilize natural light with a few, well‐placed elements meant for less time between set‐ups. Having Aitken on set allowed the team to know with confidence that they had what they needed before moving on to the next shot. The final edit was color‐corrected by Tango’s Nicole Brieger and Amy Poller provided the sound design.
Matt Manroe expands on how having all of this essential talent under one virtual roof is a benefit to any digital production. “Usually, everyone is responsible for his or her own individual element,” said Manroe. “And, generally speaking, they don’t collaborate between the companies except through a producer, but here… It is very different. Here, the idea travels uninterrupted through the process. It is a unique experience for a client, honestly.”
The “Give Me a Second” social marketing campaign is a strategic collaboration including HysterSisters founder, Kathy Kelley; Momentum Public Relations; and KickSkirt Marketing and its partners including Liberal Media Films, charlieuniformtango and digitango.
