Veteran Flame artist and on-line editor Jim Eberle has joined Chainsaw, a division of The SIM Group, as part of its growing team focused on post-production services for scripted television. Eberle, whose first assignment will be as finishing editor for the fifth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, brings more than 30 years of experience spanning feature films, episodic television, feature film marketing and other media.
Eberle has been working as a freelancer for the past several years, including stints at Technicolor, where he served as digital intermediate editor on Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3, and at EFILM, where he worked on marketing campaigns for such films as The Lone Ranger and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. His background also includes two years as an online editor and visual effects artist at Company 3, where his credits included 18 feature films, as well as posts with Universal Digital Services and Westwind Media.
On Game of Thrones, Eberle will collaborate with Chainsaw colorist Joe Finley and in-house post producer Ainsley Dietz. “Jim is a great addition to our Game of Thrones staff,” said Chainsaw co-founder Bill DeRonde. “He is a talented and team-oriented editor who has been working at a high level for a long time.”
Eberle described himself as a fan of Chainsaw and its co-founders Bill DeRonde and Mike Polito. He is impressed with the company’s growth and excited to have the opportunity to work on Game of Thrones. “Each episode of Game of Thrones is like a 1-hour feature film,” he observed. “It is heavy with visual effects, involves a lot of work, and the standards are very high.”
Best known for its work on awards shows, competition shows and reality shows, including The Academy Awards, The Kennedy Center Honors and American Idol, Chainsaw has been steadily increasing its presence in scripted television and feature films. In addition to post production services, the company offers extensive editing facilities for television and features.
