Industry experts discuss how new production models will impact post production companies.
Some of the film and television industry’s leading experts in digital acquisition will offer their views on the impact new production methodologies will have on post production companies in a lunch-time panel discussion hosted by the <a href="www.hpaonline.com.>Hollywood Post Alliance‘s Sales Career Resource Group (SCRG), Wednesday, February 2nd, at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn in North Hollywood.
Panelists for the event, titled Digital Acqui$ition: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, will include Garrett Smith, VP Production Technology at Paramount Pictures, Larry Chernoff, CEO of MTI Film, Michael Cioni CEO of Lightiron Digital, and David Cummins, Digital Media Supervisor for the film “127 Hours.” Phil Squyres, Senior Vice President-Technical Operations/TV at Sony Pictures TV will serve as moderator.
“Although considerable attention has been paid to the technical aspects of digital acquisition, there has been far less focus on the business ramifications of new production methodologies,” said SCRG Chair Seth Hallen. “Our panelists will explore the topic of digital acquisition from a business development standpoint, so that facility owners and sales executive can better understand how it will affect their relationships with their clients and their bottom lines.”
Panelists will offer answers to such questions as “When does post actually start?”, “What are the opportunities…and the pitfalls?”, “What has changed in the last year?,” “What about storage?” and “What’s coming next?”
Members of the SCRG committee include Ben Benedetti, Denice Angelo-Cummins, Herb Dow (Co-Chair), Joel Epps, Mark Genin, Larry Goodman, Lisa Griffin, Chris Gregory, Seth Hallen (Chair), Pat Howley and Anthony Magliocco.
The <a href="www.hpaonline.com.>Hollywood Post Alliance‘s Sales Career Resource Group was formed in 2007 to provide networking opportunities, training and employment resources to sales and marketing professionals in the post production industry. Through hosted events and website resources, SCRG allows its members to engage with industry colleagues in a relaxed and mutually supportive environment, and to gain insights from industry leaders. Past SCRG events have included expert presentations—from a sales perspective—on emerging technologies such as digital workflows and the Red Camera.
“There are many seminars, websites and other resources available to creative artists and to people involved in the technical aspects of post production, but there are few places where those focused on business development can go for the information and support they need to succeed,” Hallen said. “SCRG’s mission is to fill that void by creating a forum for the sales people whose contributions are so vital to the industry’s continuing health.”

“Ǝvolution” Comes Full Circle At The Chelsea Film Festival
The Chelsea Film Festival, running from October 16th through October 20th, 2024, at Regal Cinemas here in Union Square, is set to host the East Coast premiere of Ǝvolution, a thought-provoking experimental micro-short film that proves big ideas can come in small packages and in perfect circles.
In just 1 minute 16 seconds, this cinematic gem by Award-Winning Director Romina Schwedler, with original music by Argentine Composer Ignacio Montoya Carlotto, explores a cycle as old as time: life leads to progress, progress leads to destruction, and destruction, well, leads back to life. But is this vicious circle unbreakable? Ǝvolution suggests the answer is yes, unless we decide to open our eyes.
Inspired by the overwhelming number of recent events that threaten human existence, Ǝvolution, possibly the shortest film in this 12th edition of the festival, plays out entirely through the symbolism of circles, cleverly illustrating —in the blink of an eye— the repeating patterns of history, and confronting viewers with the uncomfortable truth that our so-called “progress” may, in fact, be guiding us to our own ruin.Premiering at the Regal 14 Union Square, New York City, on October 18, 2024, at 11 a.m., Romina Schwedler's micro-short, featuring Leah Young with cinematography by Alan J. Carmona, will be sure to spark conversations longer than the film itself! Forcing viewers to reconsider the true meaning of evolution, not just as a biological process, but as a reflection of our collective journey as humans.
With a string of festival appearances across the globe, including CineGlobe at CERN (Switzerland/France), Oscar®... Read More
