International production company and design studio Brand New School (BNS, www.brandnewschool.com) is very proud to announce the appointment of Jason Cohon to the position of executive producer for its West Coast operations, effective immediately.
Cohon grew up in Beaverton, Oregon, less than two miles away from the Nike World Campus, where he became obsessed with all genres of film at an early age. After moving to Los Angeles to study at Loyola Marymount University, he also spent a year in Japan before graduating in 1994 with a BBA in International Business and minors in German and Japanese. The next year, he joined ad agency RPA in Santa Monica as an assistant account executive, where his interests led him into production.
Over the years that followed, Cohon transitioned into the experiential arena, producing everything from stunts to live concerts. He landed with Digital Domain in 2004, where he became the studio’s go-to live action commercial producer, while also jumping into VFX production, first at Digital Domain and then at Asylum. Through those experiences, Cohon worked alongside top industry innovators Joseph Kosinski, Rupert Sanders, McG, and Malcolm Venville, among many others, on projects for BMW, Coca Cola, Disney, Ford, Microsoft, and VISA, to name but a few.
Most recently, Cohon served as executive producer for SWAY Studio, where he played a major role in helping the company dramatically increase revenues while also expanding its capabilities and its customer base. Recent projects created under Cohon’s direct supervision spanned numerous high-profile promos for Dexter, the celebrated global launch of the new MINI Countryman via agency BSUR Amsterdam and Smuggler director Brian Beletic, and multiple 3D stereoscopic cinema campaigns for Scion via agency ATTIK and director Simon Needham.
“I have followed BNS for the past few years,” Cohon began. “I’ve always gravitated toward creative people and the talent here is amazing. The artists really think on another level. BNS is doing so many innovative and creative things not just in commercials but at the forefront of interactive as well. While I have a lot of ambitious goals for BNS, the first one is to marry the tools and processes I’ve learned in the VFX world to the design side in a way that no one has done before.”
BNS founder, executive creative director and director Jonathan Notaro shared this input in welcoming Cohon onboard: “Considering all the directions we are now going in, we feel very fortunate to have Jason onboard to manage our West Coast operations. With his experience, his passion for production, CGI and VFX, his connections and his leadership, we enter 2011 knowing that the best is yet to come for Brand New School. Over the weeks ahead, we are looking forward to showing the world exactly what we’re capable of.”
