Emerging workflow technologies that are revolutionizing film and television post-production will be the focus of panel discussion hosted by SIM Digital’s Bling Digital unit as part of the 2nd Digital Days Conference and Expo in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Titled New World of Post is P.O.D. Based, the event will be held at 1:30 p.m. on February 1st in the theatre at the Electronic Arts Campus. The panel will be moderated by Ken Anderson, General Manager of SIM Digital/Bling Digital, Vancouver, and feature SIM Digital/Bling Digital VP of Creative Services Chris Jacobson, Bling Digital, Vancouver, Post Services Manager Mike Ogawa, Cinematographer Michael Balfry, CFC and Digital Imaging Technician Mitch Bax.
SIM Digital/Bling Digital has pioneered the use of portable technology to perform such tasks as dailies processing, editing and color correction through its innovative Post On Demand systems. P.O.D. solutions allow many tasks that formally required the services of a traditional post house to be performed on the set, on location or in a production office, resulting in significant time and cost savings. SIM/Bling’s P.O.D. solutions have been employed by many film and television productions, including Pacific Rim, Suits, Psych, Hell on Wheels and Covert Affairs.
“Dailies production used to mean sending film to a lab or tape to a post house for processing,” notes Anderson. “Now, it can be done with gear that can fit in carry-on luggage. That not only can save a production lots of time and money, it adds flexibility to the entire workflow and opens new creative possibilities.”
“Post On Demand is about more than new technology; it’s an entirely new approach to post,” Jacobson adds. “It’s all about ramping up efficiency.”
2nd Digital Days Conference and Expo is sponsored by the Directors Guild of Canada, IATSE 669 and IATSE 891. The event features two days of sessions designed to help film and television professionals navigate the expanding digital landscape.
