On behalf of Under Armour, Steve Battista, senior vice president of brand creative, accepted the first CLIO Sports Brand Innovation Award for the company’s revolutionary creative work in sports advertising, marketing and communications.
The Grand CLIO Sports Award, the program’s highest honor among the winners, was awarded to exceptional projects that push the boundaries of creativity, as selected by a distinguished panel comprised of industry innovators and leaders. Each jury awarded a Grand CLIO to one truly exceptional piece of work within each medium.

CLIO Sports Award winners represent a diversity of talents, with breakthrough work chosen by a founding jury comprised of creative elite such as Lon Rosen, EVP and CMO of the LA Dodgers; Brendan Ripp, publisher of Sports Illustrated; John Miller, CMO of NBCSports; and Lisa Baird, CMO of the United States Olympic Committee.
The awards include two types of recognition; the Brand Innovation Award celebrates a company that has revolutionized the sports advertising, marketing and communications landscape, this year given to Under Armour. CLIO Sports Awards are given to athletes, leagues and associations, media and news outlets, teams, and brands producing exemplary creative work.
In its milestone 55th anniversary year, the CLIO Awards launched CLIO Sports, the newest global awards program, following May’s inaugural CLIO Image Awards, honoring creative excellence in the fashion and beauty industries.
