axle Video (NAB booth SL13609), the leader in affordable media management, and Softron (NAB SL13116), a developer of powerful, affordable capture and playout software for the Mac, are announcing the availability of a software module for axle 2017 which supports Softron’s MovieRecorder software and associated video capture hardware.  The companies will be demonstrating the combined solution at the NAB Show in Las Vegas later this month.

The global boom in content creation and distribution has led to growing media ingest and management requirements that are being addressed by traditional broadcast suppliers.  Facilities like universities, houses of worship, sports teams and corporate and government video groups all find themselves looking for cost-effective video capture, along with storage and management of the resulting footage.

Both Softron’s Movie Recorder and axle Video’s axle 2017 can be run on any Mac Pro, making this single, compact system a powerful resource for video capture, sharing and management.  Alternatively, for larger configurations the system can be spread across two or more Mac Pros, with MovieRecorder capturing multiple streams of video on one system and axle and its associated transcoding running on one or more additional Mac Pros.

Softron supports tagging of videos during capture and can output XML in an axle Gear-compatible format, as well as the concurrent creation of H.264 proxy media that can be used directly by axle.  When configured with axle’s Gear option and the new axle-Softron ingest module (retail price $1,400), a seamless workflow is created in which one or more channels of ingest can be fed directly into an axle Gear system, with proxies and tagging metadata available as soon as the recording is complete.

axle already supports ingest integrations with Cinedeck, Ross/Abekas and MOG capture systems which involve dedicated hardware appliances, whereas the Mac-based MovieRecorder software runs directly on OSX and is more affordable as a result. The availability of the new axle ingest software module with axle 2017 for MovieRecorder integration, makes video capture from 1 to 9 channels available at a new price point with unprecedented ease of use.

"We’re thrilled to offer this type of integrated capture solution as part of our radically simple media management system" said Sam Bogoch, axle CEO. “axle 2017 has used MovieRecorder’s REST API in order to offer tight  integration of a media management system and capture software, by allowing users  to control and view captures directly from axle 2017.”

“We are very happy of the result of our joint efforts with axle to offer a control of MovieRecorder directly from axle 2017’s user interface”, said Pierre Chevalier, Softron CTO.  “We think that, when using media management software, the best option is to handle the capture in that software. That way, users stay in just one software product that they already know, to capture multiple channels from our M|80, an AJA or Blackmagic-Design device. Everything can happen in almost any web browser, using axle 2017 and MovieRecorder.
