Assembly, a new production and post-production company, is now open in the Philadelphia area.
Devoted to the creation and delivery of strategic video content across all mediums and formats, the company is centered on a mission to deliver reality-based, narrative-driven video that complements the sales and marketing agendas of the client. Assembly‘s client base includes healthcare institutions, pharmaceutical companies, advertising agencies, non-profits, cable TV, and other organizations that have a product, service, or message in need of video marketing. They offer full-service concept-to-completion solutions, as well as a la carte services like video editing and compression, DVD authoring, motion graphics, and animation. They also specialize in producing content tailored specifically for the Internet, as well as re-purposing clients’ existing video content for the web.
While the company may be new, its co-founders, Executive Director David Fish and Creative Director John Knapich, are no strangers to the industry. Collectively, they hold more than 40 years of experience producing, editing, and directing for companies such as Broadcast Arts (now Curious Pictures), Miramax Films, NFL Films, Medical Broadcasting Company (now Digitas Health), Manhattan Transfer, Blue, and more. In fact, it’s their well-rounded professional experience that they believe gives them an advantage. “Our approach to production and directing is steeped in editorial skills,” Fish explained, “which not only creates efficiency, but also taps into our fundamental instincts as focused and intuitive, storytellers.”
High definition work is an increasingly large part of their business, as are projects using disc-based acquisition formats such as P2 and XDCAM. For editorial, they move seamlessly between Avid and Final Cut Pro, depending on the project and client preference. They also share a special interest in documentary filmmaking, which they see as a potential area of growth for the company. Fish is a Certified Trainer for all of Apple’s Professional Video Applications, and Knapich wrote, edited, and directed the film “The Dentist from New Jersey,” which was featured at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival and has been broadcast worldwide.
While focused on present work, Assembly is also poised for the future. “Workflows in video production and video post-production are not only changing rapidly, they are morphing together,” David said. “Now more than ever, digital video acquisition, editing, and delivery require careful attention to compatibility and consistency, with the technical considerations of one stage impacting the next. Clients rely not only on our creative instincts, but also on our ability to leverage technical expertise for the benefit of consistency, productivity, and results.”
When asked what, exactly, makes Assembly unique, John concluded, “Our editorial backgrounds constantly guide and inform our approach to production. David and I are adept at seeing the forest through the trees. Our vision is at once creative and streamlined, something that our clients have come to appreciate.” For more information, go to http://www.assemblypix.tv.
