Aspen Film, in a tradition dating back 21 years, announces the complete program for their annual Academy Screenings, a winter award series, Dec. 25, 2012 – Jan. 1, 2013, at Aspen’s historic Wheeler Opera House. The festival affords AMPAS, BAFTA and guild members the opportunity to experience films during their Aspen holidays in state-of-the-art big screen presentations with enthusiastic, festival-style audiences. Since the new AMPAS awards calendar is driving a compressed nominating schedule for all industry awards, the Christmas-New Year period has suddenly become a truly critical time to get industry members to see films. It makes screenings in industry-beloved vacation spots like Aspen and Maui an even more important destination for the studios hungry to get their best efforts in front of voters.
This popular cinema showcase features multiple screenings per day for much of the week. The complete schedule is listed below and available online at www.aspenfilm.org. Film industry members are encouraged to reserve their tickets and seats in advance by e-mailing RSVP@aspenfilm.org or calling 970-925-6882, ext. 308.
According to Aspen Film Artistic Director Laura Thielen, “We work closely with the studios and independent distributors to create depth and breadth in our lineup, which reflects the wide-ranging expressions of cinema in 2012. It’s been our privilege to sustain this wonderful program for more than 20 years and to serve Hollywood-in-Aspen during the holiday season.”
This year’s program highlights titles that have already garnered early critical awards. They include Kathryn Bigelow’s ZERO DARK THIRTY (Sony Pictures); Steven Spielberg’s LINCOLN (DreamWorks); Ben Affleck’s ARGO (Warner Bros.); Michael Haneke’s AMOUR (Sony Pictures Classics); David O. Russell’s SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (The Weinstein Company); Roger Michell’s HYDE PARK ON HUDSON (Focus Features); Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER (The Weinstein Company); Joe Wright’s ANNA KARENINA (Focus Features); Jacques Audiard’s RUST AND BONE (Sony Pictures Classics); Ben Lewin’s THE SESSIONS (Fox Searchlight); Nikolaj Arcel’s A ROYAL AFFAIR (Magnolia Pictures); David Chase’s NOT FADE AWAY (Paramount Vantage); Gus Van Sant’s PROMISED LAND (Focus Features); Olivier Nakache & Eric Toledano’s THE INTOUCHABLES (The Weinstein Company); Dustin Hoffman’s QUARTET (The Weinstein Company); Sally Potter’s London coming of age drama GINGER & ROSA (A24); and Walter Salles’ ON THE ROAD (IFC Films).
