Apache helped bring life to Tyler Riggs new wrenching but relatable film, “Peace In The Valley,” contributing their color and finishing techniques ahead of its world premiere at the 2022 Tribeca Festival in June.
The film highlights the current climate of gun violence in America, following a family’s struggle to make sense of a heartless act of terror in their local supermarket. The father, firefighter and veteran, rushes toward the attacker and dies a hero leaving his wife and son, Jesse to navigate life on their own. Jesse’s budding interest in hunting puts an interesting twist on the film, depicting the challenges our everyday society has with sobering real-world consequences of America’s obsession with firearms.
This isn’t the first time that Apache Colorist Taylor Black and Director Tyler Riggs have worked together — the two established a rapport while working on Riggs’ short ‘Crocodile Smile’ and his Tribeca debut ‘God’s Waiting Room.’
“Working on ‘Peace in the Valley’ was a fantastic experience,” shares Black. “Tyler is a wonderful storyteller and has a unique perspective that he brings to his work so I was thrilled when he came back with ‘Peace.’”
The film also reunited Black with frequent collaborator Cinematographer Mack Fisher. This pre-existing relationship made the production and post-production process easier for all involved, with the two working together to create a shooting lut using test footage. “His work always has a natural beauty to it,” comments Black. “Over the course of the last several years I have come to understand his aesthetic and what he strives for. We carried that grade into the final color session and it ended up saving us a ton of time as everyone was really happy where the principal photography sat after wrap.”
