At last week's annual Radio Mercury Awards event in New York City presented by the Radio Advertising Bureau (RAB), Leo Burnett Chicago and Another Country added two top awards to their growing list of accolades for their work for Allstate. Specifically, this partnership won top honors in the Best Integrated Radio Campaign category for Mayhem's All-Time Greatest Hits, and in the Radio Campaign category for Chicago Mayhem.
Another Country's David Gerbosi has mixed every Allstate Mayhem radio spot since the campaign's inception in 2010, including the latest award winners. "Mayhem's Greatest Hits is very innovative in that it plays with the medium of radio itself and uses it in a new way," he explained. "It plays out over two hours, so it's really one long radio show rather than a series of spots. From an audio perspective, it's unique in that it takes place in so many different time periods. It was a great challenge to sound-design so many different scenarios: 70's style background singers, the sinking of the Titanic, the Trojan horse, silent movies, and much more."
A Radio Mercury Award finalist many times over the years, Allstate's Mayhem campaign also won the Integrated Radio Campaign category's top honors in 2011. Most TV elements of this celebrated campaign featuring Dean Winters (which has won scores of Cannes Lion, Effie and CLIO awards, among many others) have all been mixed by Another Country's John Binder.

Gerbosi also had a third Allstate Mayhem spot shortlisted in the program, as well as one ad for BMO Harris Bank produced for Y&R Chicago. His fellow Another Country mixer Drew Weir earned nominations in the Agency/Production and Most Innovative Use of Radio categories for two McDonald's spots via Cossette and two Fifth Third Bank spots via Leo Burnett.
The RAB's Radio Mercury Awards honor outstanding radio created by advertising agencies, production companies, radio stations and students. It is the only competition exclusively devoted to radio, and since 1992, approximately 17,500 commercials have competed for over $3.1 million in prizes.
