The Association of Commercial Stock Image Licensors (ACSIL), a trade association serving the interests of the world’s leading archival footage and stock licensors, announced its newly elected Co-Presidents today:
Max Segal, Director, HBO Archives/March of Time Documentaries, was elected to his third term as Co-President, and will continue his work to develop a profile for ACSIL’s members within the international creative communities.
Clara Fon-Sing, VP and General Manager, Archives Sales & Strategy, NBC News, was elected to her first term as Co-President, and will lead a new ACSIL Strategy Group to address industry developments and explore emerging business models to influence the commercial archives ecosystem.
Each Co-President serves a two-year term.
Also announced was the hire of Matthew White to assume the responsibilities of ACSIL’s Executive Director. White, who was the first President of ACSIL, has been active in the development of audio-visual archives since 1986, when he founded the WPA Film Library. He has also served in senior management positions at National Geographic Ventures and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, where he was Executive Director of the American Archive.
White replaces Jill Hawkins, who was ACSIL’s Executive Director since its founding in 2003. “Under Jill’s leadership, ACSIL established itself as the primary international organization to support the licensing activities of film and video archives,” said Co-President Max Segal. “We are building on the work she pioneered.”
“I can’t think of a more important time for ACSIL, as video use is accelerating at an exponential rate,” said Matthew White after the formal election of Officers on March 26. “Our members hold the invaluable motion picture records of the human story, from the first moving images captured in 1894 to the extraordinary HD and 4K cinematography that is documenting our world today.”
“As the only organization in the US representing footage licensors, we are in a unique position to shape the future of our business and define our role in the evolving digital media economy,” said Co-President Clara Fon-Sing, who ran licensing activities at ABC News, INA, and BBC Motion Gallery before assuming her role at NBCUniversal. “ACSIL provides an international industry forum to help us all navigate the challenging and also exhilarating transformation of our core business activities.”
ACSIL’s Co-Presidents were elected on March 26 during ACSIL’s General Meeting at NBC/Universal’s offices in Rockefeller Plaza, New York. Also elected to ACSIL offices were Diane Paradiso (WPA Film Library) as Secretary and Alison Smith (WGBH Boston) as Treasurer.
