Six employees of DFT Digital Film Technology Holding GmbH are being honored for their critical roles in scientific and technology achievements and will each receive Sci-Tech awards from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (A.M.P.A.S.). The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards honor those whose innovations have contributed in significant ways to motion pictures.
Volker Massmann, Markus Hasenzahl and Andreas Loew will each receive a Scientific and Engineering Award for the development of the Spirit 4K/2K Film Scanner. Christian Baeker and Frank Billasch will each receive a Technical Achievement Award for their contributions to the LUTher Color Space Converter. Dr. Klaus Anderle was involved in the development of both products and will receive both awards.

The Spirit 4K/2K is a high speed, high precision Film Scanner that scans images in 4K resolution. DFT has installed more than 450 systems of the Spirit family worldwide and is considered the market leader in fast, high end film scanning.
The company recently launched the successor to the Spirit 4K/2K Film Scanner with their new SCANITYโข. SCANITY is installed at Sony Pictures Technologies in Los Angeles and began shipping to customers worldwide in December, 2009. A key unique feature is its touch-free perforation detection and optical pin registration that scans film stocks extremely gently. SCANITY is ideal for new film productions as well as archival and restoration projects.
The LUTher Color Space Converter is a calibration tool used in film production that adapts the color space between different monitors and digital / film projectors. It ensures the correct color representation is independent from the viewing device. A 3D look-up table provides a calibrated pre-visualization of a film print allowing the operator to see the correct colors that will be projected from the release print in movie theatres.
DFT Digital Film Technology was founded in December 2008, yet its legacy dates back to 1929 in Berlin, Germany as Fernseh-AG. Milestones of the company include the first HD transmission of Olympic Games events in Barcelona, 1992 as well contributions to digital post production in motion pictures including the digital intermediate process.
The Sci-Tech awards ceremony will take place on February 20th 2010 in the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
