Dattner Dispoto and Associates (DDA) cinematographer Ben Smithard received the Award for "Best Cinematography in a Miniseries" for 'Return to Cranford' at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday.

The BBC miniseries stars Dame Judi Dench and Imelda Staunton, with Simon Curtis directing. Set in 1844, Return to Cranford followed the series Cranford and aired on BBC One in December 2009 and in America on PBS on January 2010.

Smithard's proficiency in photographing period pieces extends to all eras; his painstaking attention to detail in The Damned United earned Smithard critical acclaim from The Hollywood Reporter's Kirk Honeycutt: "Cinematographer Ben Smithard… matches archival footage with the gritty, eye-sore colors and lackluster design of much of the '70s."

His upcoming projects include The Trip directed by Michael Winterbottom, set to release later this year. Smithard is represented by Dattner Dispoto and Associates in Los Angeles and Independent Talent Group in the U.K.
