Sound Lounge, renowned artist-owned and operated audio post-production studio in New York City, has won a Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel (MPSE) for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing–Broadcast Short Form–for its Film+Television division’s work on the widely-popular FX comedy-drama “The Bear.”
“Winning an MPSE for our work on “The Bear” has been such a rewarding experience,” said Steve “Major” Giammaria, Supervising Sound Editor and Re-Recording Mixer at Sound Lounge. “We had a great sound team on this project and were able to create a unique and engaging soundscape for the show that our peers were able to recognize and appreciate.”
The MPSE Award is one of the most prestigious sound awards in the industry, honoring the best achievements in sound editing across 17 categories encompassing film, television, video games and student work. “The Bear,” one of the most talked-about shows of 2022, utilized sound to help bring the show to life and was a leading component in the storytelling of the series. Those awarded the MPSE from Sound Lounge for “The Bear: Review'' include Supervising Sound Editor Steve “Major” Giammaria and Dialogue Editor Evan Benjamin from the Film+Television division. The extended team also recognized for their work on the series includes Sound Effects Editor Jonathan Fuhrer, Foley Editors Annie Taylor and Chris White, and Foley Artists Leslie Bloome and Shaun Brennan.
“It is rare when a whole show is made with sound in mind from the beginning, so it was particularly exciting to be selected for this series,” said Giammaria. “We spent a lot of time meticulously sculpting the scenes from the stylized pieces to the cacophony of the kitchen, to the uneasy quiet of a back-alley smoke break. We were able to take the template the showrunners gave us and build upon it to create depth and texture that brought the world of The Bear to life.”
Sound Lounge was also nominated for a CAS in Television Series: Half Hour for “The Bear” S1:E7 “Review.” The team will work on “The Bear” season 2, which is expected to air in early summer.
