11 Dollar Bill, a post-production and design studio with facilities in Chicago and Boulder, has launched a satellite office in Los Angeles. Led by Senior Editor Jess Weber, the new location gives the company a formal West Coast presence as it seeks to tap into the local advertising market and expand further into episodic television and other forms of entertainment content.
“We have excellent relationships with West Coast agencies and having a physical presence there will open more doors,” says Managing Partner Lisa Effress. “Jess is the ideal choice to lead that effort. She is young, exceptionally talented, tapped into pop culture and highly motivated.” Effress added that the company expects to eventually to open a full-service post facility in the Los Angeles area.
Weber has been part of 11 Dollar Bill’s Chicago staff for seven years and serves as senior editor and story producer on the Velocity Channel (USA) series Garage Squad. She will continue in that role for the series’ eighth season, which begins next month, working remotely with the Chicago facility where the rest of the editing team is based and where color grading and finishing work is done. “We are hoping to bring more series work to 11 Dollar Bill and build a network of directors, other clients and friends in the industry who enjoy working with us,” Weber notes.
Weber brings broad experience in commercials and digital content, including work for Finish Line, Red Bull, Wilson Sporting Goods, Comcast and Carvana. She has teamed with Denver agency Crispin Porter Bogusky on several projects, including Kraft’s Swear Like a Mother campaign, a winner of a Wood Pencil at the D&AD Awards. She also collaborated with writer/director Al Wyatt on a campaign for the PGA’s TeeOff.com app, which won a Silver Addy Award. “Jess is a superstar,” says 11 Dollar Bill CEO John Polk. “She has great instincts as a storyteller and a good eye for performance. That makes her an incredible asset to creative teams.” Weber’s recent work also includes Cranberry Nights and Swipe Up, Vivian!, two short films currently on the festival circuit.
With the advertising and entertainment beginning to rebound as the pandemic crisis recedes, this is a perfect time to explore new opportunities, according to Weber. “11 Dollar Bill is constantly evolving and reinventing itself,” she says. “I am lucky to be part of a company willing to make a bold move like this and to have the support of such a talented team. It’s inspiring and I want to keep it going.”
