AMV BBDO, London, turned out this long-form Xmas ad for grocery store chain Sainsbury’s which is a creative interpretation of Christmas Day 1914 when British and German World War I soldiers laid down their arms and came together on neutral territory to share greetings, treats, mementoes and even a game of football. Director Ringan Ledwidge of Rattling Stick worked closely with AMV BBDO, Sainsbury’s and The British Legion to make the portrayal of the battlefield truce as accurate as possible, basing it on original reports and letters, as well as working with historians throughout the development and production process.
The Mill’s 2D and matte painting team transported the cast back to snowy 1914 Germany by creating a series of matte paintings for the football match setting, before seamlessly comping the live action plates on top, to realistically re-create a chilling mid-winter view of No-Mans land.

Johnnie Walker wraps up the year with an inspiring campaign that is a direct and bold response to those who would question the strength of women. Created by AlmapBBDO in Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil, this anthem film--โForte Sรฃo Elasโ (โStrong are the Womenโ) starring actress Alice Braga--references one of the most iconic productions in the brandโs history worldwide:โThe Man Who Walked Around The World.โ
Produced by Surreal Hotel Arts, directed by Lu Villaรงa, and featuring an original soundtrack by Cabaret Studio, โForte Sรฃo Elasโ shows Braga walking as she describes how strength plays an essential role in the daily life of every woman. Whether facing stereotypes or countless other barriers, women are the masters of their own choices and stay true to their journeys.
โThe campaign recognizes the emotional strength and resilience of every woman who faces and overcomes obstacles every day, and boldly challenges outdated stereotypes. And when they say that whisky is too strong for women, we will tell them: itโs the women who are strong,โ said Andrea Rubim, head of marketing for Johnnie Walker.
