Boots, a pharmacy-led health and beauty chain in the U.K., has launched its 2021 Christmas campaign, starring BAFTA-nominated (Doctor Who, The Cry) actress Jenna Coleman as the character of Joy.
In this three-minute “Bags of Joy” spot created by agency The Pharm, Joy reaches into her handbag, which is a gift from her grandma, and finds that it’s seemingly bottomless–the repository for gift after gift which she pulls out to the delight of varied recipients.
Oscar winner Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) directed the Boots UK piece via production house SMUGGLER. The spot was lensed by Seamus McGarvey, a two-time Academy Award nominee (Atonement, Anna Karenina) for Best Cinematography.
The Boots UK spot soundtrack, performed by a 45-piece orchestra at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, was composed by Rachel Portman OBE, the first female composer to win an Oscar (Emma in 1997).
