What if the Axis Powers won World War II? Like Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, Bethesda’s just introduced Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus video game presents an alternate history–in this case one in which the victorious Nazi regime, now controlling the U.S., faces opposition headed by war vet William “B.J.” Blazkowicz.
Markus Walter of production house RESET directed a series of films for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, presenting a vision of post-WWII America that oozes nostalgia and harbors a dark undercurrent of dread. Walter, a German born director who grew up watching American TV, brings an authenticity to these films that make them feel all the more relevant 2017’s America.
In this short film we see that a Third Reich big brother is watching–specifically being vigilant over his little brother who dares to eat a chocolate bar, an enjoyable experience that the New Order will not tolerate. Big brother tries to set his sibling straight but still intends to inform on him, bringing a perversely humorous twist to the proceedings.
