This docu-style film directed and shot on iPhone by Phillip Youmans of SMUGGLER for Apple and TBWAMedia Arts Lab delves into the work and experiences of four Black still photographers who are featured in a broader campaign. The four are among 30-plus Black photographers commissioned by Apple to chronicle their hometowns on the iPhone 12. That overall collection of photography appeared @apple on Instagram during February, Black History Month.
Lawrence Agyei (Chicago), Gabriella Angotti-Jones (Los Angeles), Lauren Woods (Charlotte) and Julien James (Washington, D.C.) are the photographers featured in the Youmans-directed film. We see their work reflecting their hometowns and hear the stories told through that work, shedding light for example on the streets of Chicago, on being Black and queer in the South, on Black female surfers in Southern California, and on Black culture in America’s capital.
