Jake Schreier of bicoastal Park Pictures directed this music video for the latest HAIM single, “Want You Back.” The clip evokes girl camaraderie in matching ‘90s-era ankle boots as sisters Danielle, Este and Alana Haim stroll down a Los Angeles block littered with abandoned shopping plazas and gritty street corners. The women begin their trek pensive, only occasionally acknowledging the synth melodies and woeful lyrics reverberating in the background: “And I know that I ran you down, so you ran away with your heart, but just know that I want you back.”
As the clouds part and music amps up, HAIM’s demeanor transforms without breaking stride into togetherness, delving into a synchronized choreographed dance routine as they reach Van Nuys Blvd. Schreier’s direction gives a nod to other HAIM music videos, collaborating with the sisters to retain the pastel-tinted slices of Angelino life they portray in their films.
Music video and film director Schreier has made strong headway helming music videos as of late, having led projects for Francis & The Lights–of which he was a former band member–Chance the Rapper and Cashmere Cat.
