Creative agency and production company MUH-TAY-ZIK | HOF-FER recently developed “DubTales,” a multi-spot campaign, for the NBA’s Golden State Warriors (The Dubs is a nickname given to the team by fans). The commercials turn the skills and accomplishments of Warriors players into Paul Bunyan-esque tall tales. These stories are delivered by one of the Warriors’ biggest fans: a fast-talking food truck owner who’s incredibly passionate about the team.
The first spot, “DubTales: Stephen Curry,” focuses on Warriors’ point guard and NBA star Stephen Curry, known for his high-arching rainbow jump shots, resulting in the most 3-pointers by an NBA player in a single season. Adding to Curry’s legend is our burrito truck owner who from behind the mobile kitchen counter refers to Curry and his jump shot as “kissing clouds, pleasing crowds, making it rain.” The tall tales continue as our mobile restaurateur notes that Curry’s jump shot has such a large arc that it can fit two animals of every kind on Earth. People are even looking to Curry to end the California drought as his jumper hits the clouds and brings down rain. At that point, a downpour occurs, causing the folks around the food truck to scatter.
“DubTales–Stephen Curry” was directed by MUH-TAY-ZIK’s executive creative director John Matejczyk and associate creative director/copywriter Josh Bogdan.
