As American’s grapple with the racial reckoning since George Floyd’s murder, STATEMENT, an advocacy media company, aims to help push public opinion to help pass H.R.1280, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021, with the launch of this social spot, “Bad Apples.”
STATEMENT founder Foley Ellis Ibidapo wrote and directed “Bad Apples,” produced by Magnus Films. An alum of SHOOT’s 2020 New Directors Showcase, Ibidapo is on the roster of production company LAIR for representation as a commercial director.
Ibidapo explained that “Bad Apples” is inspired by Chris Rock’s set about police violence, showcased in his Netflix stand-up comedy special, Tambourine. “Bad Apples” emphasizes the ridiculousness of the lack of accountability within law enforcement by comparing it to other professions dealing with life and death situations. Each vignette features an extremely farcical situation where an emergency service technician, doctor, and a pilot put people’s lives at risk.
Ibidapo believes that “comedy, humor and satire are powerful tools to help people understand both cultural issues and social challenges.”
“Bad Apples” is presented by STATEMENT and the Diversity and Justice Coalition.
