New York-based Priority Bicycles has launched a short film series, Priority Stories, consisting of online profile pieces that draw attention to those who make it a priority to give back to their community. Each piece provides a look into the lives of those making a difference and their personal motivations for why they devote their time and energy. Each story is accompanied by a call to action for others to get more information and raise awareness on how to help.
The first installment was directed by Dan Maloney, best known as an editor at Cut+Run. Marking Maloney’s directorial debut, the short–which he also edited–features Elena Mendis, a recreational bicycle rider and volunteer at New York City’s Art Start, a non-profit organization that uses arts education to help at-risk and homeless youth. The story tells a day-in-the-life of Mendis, who rides her bicycle from Brooklyn to Manhattan every day, and after her full-time job, volunteers at Art Start to help empower New York City’s youth to succeed and thrive.
