DoorDash is spotlighting how home delivery can help break down barriers for people experiencing food insecurity with a heartfelt new campaign for Project DASH, the companyโs initiative to empower food banks, food pantries, and other community organizations. Directed by Edward Buckles (Buck) Jr. of Greenpoint Pictures in partnership with DoorDashโs internal creative studio Superette, โThe Food Chainโ films showcase the partnership between DoorDash and hunger relief organizations working tirelessly to break down barriers to food access.
Recently, DoorDashโs Project DASH proudly celebrated a milestone: more than 100 million meals delivered to people experiencing food insecurity in the U.S. This achievement is made possible through partnerships with organizations like Meals on Wheels America, United Way Worldwide, and Feeding America. This campaign shines a spotlight on the dedicated efforts of these organizations and delivers a powerful message: ending hunger is a collective effort, and together, we can make a difference.
These films aim to spotlight the stories and normalize asking for help, tracing the journey of a meal from the farm to a table in need. This film follows the life of a little girl and her family, starting with her eating the last orange in the fruit bowl. The story then shifts to a farmer picking oranges, interspersed with scenes of family life, leading to the oranges being boxed at a local food bank and delivered to the familyโs home.
โGrowing up in New Orleans, I am very familiar with food insecurity,โ said Buckles. โA lot of neighborhoods that I lived in during my childhood were food deserts. Especially after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, it took away not only our homes and belongings but also some of the few neighborhood food stores that did exist. Tackling problems like food hunger in local communities takes a village. So, any project that allows me to shine a spotlight on those who pay it forward is one I can get behind. I want to ensure we do this project justice by crafting a film that explores the Project DASH food journey while ensuring the film feels authentic and intentional.โ
